The Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, has confirmed one person dead, 30 others trapped in a mining collapse at Galkago community of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
Director General of the NSEMA, Abdullahi Baba’arah, 30 persons including the site manager are still trapped in the collapse pit.
Adding that excavators have been deployed to the site to aids in the rescue mission.
Shiroro Local Government has continued to witness activities of banditry and terrorism owing to its abundant gold deposits, which also encourages illegal mining activities.
