After the collapse of a two-story building on Friday morning in Ebute Meta Lagos State, the Emergency responders have recovered the bodies of two middle-aged persons, a man and a woman, from the rubbles. This was revealed by the Lagos Territorial Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Farinloye said that a two-story building with a penthouse collapsed at about 0930 hours along Herbert Macaulay Way, Ebute Metta.
He said that the Lagos Building Control Agency (LASBCA) had issued evacuation notices several times and all the original occupants had parked out.“It was alleged that the property had been sold out about four months ago.“Three of the occupants jumped to safety with the assistance of the residents,” Farinloye said. He added that search and rescue operations were ongoing.
Earlier today the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident in a statement, adding that efforts were underway to rescue the victims and the baby. However, the reasons behind the building’s collapse were not stated.
“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service are presently responding to an emergency reported at 09:00 hours at 122 Herbert Macaulay Way, Lagos Bus Stop, Ebute Meta, Lagos, where a one-story building with a penthouse has collapsed.“Two adults and a baby, all females, are currently trapped, and search and rescue efforts are underway,” the statement read.
The rescue service director also noted that one adult female has been rescued successfully.“However, an adult female has been successfully rescued and is in stable condition, with the State Emergency Response fully activated,” she said.
