Residents of Birnin Magaji Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State fled their communities following a siege by armed bandits.
It's on record that the bandits in recent time, have repeatedly attacked many local communities in the area, killing scores of people especially the aged, children and women.
A victim from Dan-Danbo village disclosed on Saturday 22nd December 2018 that the attackers came around 8 p.m. and engaged in sporadic shooting, to scare residents. A number of men reportedly ran away, leaving behind the aged, women and children in the community, helpless to the bandits.
It was gathered that currently, women and children with their belongings are deserting the villages for safety and are taking refuge in neighboring Nasarawa Godal community of the State. Some are reuniting with their husbands after they fled from the attack.
Also, the recent attack is coming after a reported similar attack on Thursday, 20th December 2018 where armed bandits ransacked and killed several people at Garin Haladu and Garin Kaka villages, while they were working on their farmlands.
It was gathered from a resident that the bandits beat their women after they told them that they didn’t know where their already-filed husbands kept their monies. They went away with many cows and sheep and goats, including foodstuff.
More so, after the attack, residents fled the community in fear of their guaranteed safety by security personnel. They opined that their communities are under a siege and that they are repeatedly attacked by the armed bandits.
Some of the residents disclosed that the only safe place is the main town, Birnin Magaji, where soldiers are camped close to the house of Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Mansur Dan-Ali, who is an indigene of Birnin Magaji Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
In spite of this, there is the fear that the attackers are currently lurking in a nearby bush and may launch a surprise attack on Nasarawa godal community any moment, a situation that has lead to palpable fears on the resident.
