President Bola Tinubu has nominated Abdullahi Ramat as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). This development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, adding that two other individuals are nominated as commissioners of the commission.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed a new Director-General (DG) of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), Mrs. Omotenioye Majekodunmi, the replacement of Dr. Nkiruka Madueke, the Council's first DG, who was appointed in June 2024.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has announced that it will be compelled to halt all emergency food and nutrition assistance for 1.3 million people in northeastern Nigeria by the end of July. In a statement released on Wednesday, the UN attributed the move to severe funding shortages, which coincide with a surge in violence and unprecedented levels of hunger across the region. “WFP’s food and nutrition stocks have been completely exhausted. The organization’s last supplies left warehouses in early July, and life-saving assistance will end after the current round of distributions is completed.”
More states are now planning to reduce electricity tariffs within their territories following a new directive from the Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC), which slashed the Band-A electricity rate from N209 per kilowatt-hour to N160/kWh for Main-Power Electricity Distribution Limited, starting August 1, 2025. This move, however, sparked strong opposition from power generation and distribution companies. The Generation Companies (GenCos) warned that such actions could destabilize the power sector, pointing out that the industry already owes them over N5 trillion.
