Nigeria commemorates Armed Forces Remembrance Day, today, January 15, 2025, paying tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes who have shown bravery and dedication to uphold the country’s territorial integrity and ensure citizens’ peace and safety with the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the country.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Bola Tinubu who has been away attending the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the UAE.
The Senate and House of Representatives as well as Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, and others were in attendance at the annual event.
Ministers, senior government officials, senior military officers, members of the diplomatic corps, widows of gallant officers, and the wives of military officers were also present at the occasion.
The Senate Committee on Nigerian Army, led by Senator Abdul’aziz Yar’adua, recognizes the bravery, patriotism, and selflessness of military personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty, even as he commends serving officers and soldiers for maintaining peace and ensuring the nation’s security and safety from internal and external aggression.
He expressed deep humility and admiration for the sacrifices of the Armed Forces, highlighting their unwavering commitment to national unity and security.
Senate President, Godswill Akpabio called on Nigerians to honor the sacrifices of fallen heroes by fostering unity, advancing peace, and committing to nation-building. He emphasized the need to support the families of fallen heroes and strengthen welfare programs for veterans.
