The Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria has presented Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi, Director-General of the Department of State Services, with the Friend of the Media award. At the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards Night, held in Abuja on Wednesday, the prize was announced. Ajayi was one of the special recipients honored for her contributions to the media sector.
BON characterized the head of the DSS as "a thoroughbred professional, who since his appointment by President Tinubu has displayed utmost respect for the media."
On behalf of Ajayi, the award was given to Bayo Awosemo, the head of the BON steering committee, who was also recognized for his excellent leadership.
Alongside Ajayi, other awardees included Dr. Dauda Lawal, the governor of Zamfara State; Senator Bassey Otu, the governor of Cross River State; Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation; and Mr. Obadiah Tohomdet, a former Executive Secretary of BON.
Just five months have passed since Ajayi received an award from the International Press Institute for his support of press freedom.
Ajayi's dedication to honoring journalists and fostering better ties between the security agency and the media since his appointment in August 2024 was recognized with the IPI award, which was given out on December 2 at the organization's annual conference in Abuja.
Lawal praised the organizers in his speech for honoring diligence, expertise, and significant achievements to society.
"I think the media has a part to play in shaping everything we do, not just in Nigeria but globally," Lawal stated.
The major host, Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, praised BON for initiating and maintaining the program.
The CEOs of more than 300 broadcast media companies in Nigeria are represented by BON, an umbrella organization.
