The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has commenced a nationwide ban on alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles below 200 millilitres from circulation.
NAFDAC stated that this development is in line with the directive of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to prohibit the production, importation, distribution, sale and use of such products.
According to reports, the enforcement teams of the agency have started inspections in motor parks, retail outlets, markets and other distribution channels to seize the prohibited products from circulation.
The agency said the aim of this was to curb underage drinking, harmful alcohol consumption and substance abuse and also urged the public to support its efforts by refraining from purchasing the banned products and also inform the agency of anyone involved in the production, distribution or sale of the banned alcoholic beverages.
