The Department of State Services and its Director-General, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, have received praise from the National Association of Nigerian Students for making sure the student body's 2026 national convention was successful, peaceful, and credible.
The newly elected NANS President, Akinteye Afeez, praised the DSS for what he called an extraordinary demonstration of professionalism, patriotism, and operational excellence during the exercise and called the convention historic in a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday.
He claims that without the security architecture and strategic coordination implemented by the DSS, it would have been challenging to run the conference successfully.
"The successful conclusion of the recently concluded convention would have been virtually unattainable without the robust security architecture and strategic coordination meticulously deployed to guarantee a seamless, peaceful, and hitch-free exercise, as the largest Black students' movement in the world, the foremost and most formidable pressure group in the country, and the umbrella body unifying all student structures both within Nigeria and in the diaspora," he stated.
According to Afeez, the DSS was essential in upholding law and order and making sure the conference was held in a civil and peaceful environment.
"The DSS played a crucial role in maintaining order, protecting lives, and ensuring that the convention progressed within an atmosphere of serenity, civility, and decorum worthy of an event of such historic magnitude through its exemplary professionalism, vigilance, and tactful conduct," he said.
The DSS Director-General was especially commended by the NANS president for his leadership and dedication to the convention's success.
"Going forward, we extend our sincere gratitude and credibility to Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, the current Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), for his strategic leadership, unwavering dedication, and invaluable support in ensuring the 2026 Convention is a huge success."
Additionally, he conveyed his faith in the DSS leadership's capacity to maintain the nation's democratic stability and national security.
He also commended the secret police officers stationed at the convention site, stating that their diligence and professionalism greatly aided in the exercise's peaceful conclusion.
"You unquestionably contributed to the peaceful and historic victory recorded at the Convention with your professionalism, vigilance, patriotism, and exceptional operational coordination," he continued.
For the sake of Nigerian students and the advancement of the country, the student leader promised that NANS would keep up its cooperative relationship with the DSS.
