President Bola Tinubu has nominated Abdullahi Ramat as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). This development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, adding that two other individuals are nominated as commissioners of the commission.
The two persons are Abubakar Yusuf, Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, and Fouad Olayinka Animashun, Commissioner for Finance and Management Services.
The statement said that the nominated CEO is an electrical engineer and administrator with a PhD in strategic management and other qualifications.
According to the statement, “However, to avoid a leadership vacuum in the critical regulatory agency, the President directed that Engr. Ramat assume office in an acting capacity pending his screening by the Senate, as stipulated by the law.
“President Tinubu urged the new appointees to use their knowledge and experience to discharge their functions and work assiduously to advance the administration’s power sector vision.”
NERC is under the Federal Ministry of Power, and it is an independent regulatory body with the authority to regulate the electric power industry in Nigeria.
