The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, paid a visit to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Sunday at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, to reassure him that efforts are being made to secure his release.
Otti was accompanied by his entourage, including Abia State Attorney General, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, and Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu, as well as some Sokoto State government officials.
In a statement after the visit, Ekeoma disclosed that the governor urged Kanu to stay hopeful, explaining that he has intensified efforts on the move for his release, which he initiated two years ago.
The governor reportedly expressed confidence that the issue would be resolved “administratively” and that Kanu would soon be released.
He also told the IPOB leader of the Sultan of Sokoto’s unwavering Support and his commitment towards the peaceful resolution of the matter. Ekeoma added that Otti told Kanu that the Sultan, on a lighter note, said Kanu was now his “subject” and would be turbaned, a comment that made Kanu laugh.
Kanu, observed to be in good spirits, expressed gratitude to Otti for the visit. He commended the governor’s achievements in Abia State and encouraged him to continue focusing on good governance.
