The Academic Staff Union of the Nigerian Universities, ASUU say the union is still studying the Appeal Court judgement before making any comment as the industrial court judgement directing ASUU to suspend the strike has been affirmed by the Appeal Court ASUU was given the shock of its life today when the Appeal Court today upheld the judgement by the National Industrial Court that the lecturers should go back to the classroom with immediate effect. Reacting to the latest court judgement, ASUU president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke disclosed that the union is yet to receive a copy of the Appeal Court ruling before it will make any comment.

The recently registered Congress of Nigerian Universities Academics, CONUA, says a strike is no longer an option as the union is considering other means of driving their demands home with the federal government. Being a rival to the Academic Staff Union of the Nigerian University, CONUA has bragged that though it recently secured registration, it has established its presence in 17 universities across the federation and still working on registering new members.

In a bid to end the ongoing nationwide strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), 2 academic unions, the Congress of National University Academics (CONUA) and the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) registered with the Federal Government (FG) on Tuesday. The Minister of Labor and Productivity, Chris Ngige presented certificates of registration to the two newly-established unions.

President Muhammadu Buhari has accused the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian universities, ASUU of corrupt practice, saying the union is complicit in the corruption going on in tertiary education. The ASUU has been on industrial action since February 14, 2022, following a directive by the Federal Government demanding ASUU to join the integrated personnel payroll Information, IPPIS, a payment platform for all federal workers in Nigeria. Although ASUU claimed that joining IPPIS was not the only reason that they embarked on the strike but failure by the Federal Government to live up to its 2019 agreement with the union.

The Federal Government (FG) through the Accountant General of the Federation, Sylvia Okolieaboh has urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that they would be accommodated on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). Okolieaboh made the plea on Thursday during the meeting between ASUU and the House of Representatives.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results for the 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). The results were announced on Thursday by the NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, adding that candidates should check NECO’s website for results.
