The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, has disclosed that the agency is set to establish menstrual banks across some schools in Northern Nigeria. The UNICEF Education Specialist, Mrs. Mairama Dikwa, made the disclosure in Bauchi state today that work will commence by this year November across all schools with Girls Enrolment Project 3 (GEP3). According to Dikwa, the project will focus on Menstrual Hygiene Management, a project that was established to support and ensure that Girls remain at school.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), as well as relevant stakeholders in the tertiary education sector, have fixed cut-off marks for 2022 admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide. The decision was reached on Thursday at the Policy Meeting on Admissions to Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria which was chaired by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.

Following the lingering industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of the Nigerian Universities, ASUU, President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, to hand off negotiations. ASUU has consistently blamed Mr. Ngige for constituting a clog in the wheel of the progress of the negotiation towards addressing the crisis. Minister for Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu received the matching order against Mr. Ngige from Buhari to ensure that the negotiation with the academician has a headway.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it would meet with institutions and relevant agencies on Thursday, July 21, 2022, to set the 2022/2023 admissions cut-off mark, amongst others. This was disclosed in the Board’s weekly bulletin which was released on Monday, stating that the meeting would be chaired by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced that it stands with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and will embark on a nationwide protest on July 26th and 27th, 2022 in solidarity with the Union. This development was disclosed in a circular signed by the National President, Ayuba Wabba, to all NLC state chairmen.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige has disclosed that the Federal Government is committed to ending the industrial action soon as talks with the Academic Staff Union of the Nigerian Universities (ASUU) resume today. The Minister has dismissed that contrary to insinuations that the Federal Government was playing lackadaisical attitude by not engaging the ASUU was not true as a series of meetings have been ongoing and they are almost near agreement with the academicians. The minister made these remarks while engaging the newsmen at the State House shortly after the meeting with Federal Executive Council (FEC) yesterday.
