Following complains by parents and scholars on the need to re-introduce the teaching of History, the Federal Government of Nigeria has directed all basic and secondary schools across the country to immediately implement the teaching of history as a standalone subject. The directive is to be implemented from the next academic calendar.
Making the disclosure, Mr Sonny Echono, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education stressed that the Federal Government on June 18th promised the return of history to school curriculum while ensuring that all primary school teachers are trained to deliver digital literacy.
Recall that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo during the launch of Education for Justice Programme noted that that government had kick-started implementation in 12 primary and secondary schools across the six geopolitical zones and instructional classes have also commenced.
