Amid increased security concerns, the Kano State Government has confirmed that Muhammad Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, will preside over the state's Eid-el-Fitr (Sallah) durbar. Ibrahim Waiya, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday, stating that the Kano Emirate Council and other important stakeholders were consulted before the decision was made.
According to Waiya, intelligence assessments revealed that certain individuals had plans to sabotage the festivities, prompting the authorities to implement safety precautions.
He emphasized that the state would not compromise on upholding peace, law and order, and safeguarding people and property, even as it remains dedicated to preserving its rich cultural legacy.
He claims that Emir Sanusi will lead the customary Hawan Idi durbar, which will begin at the Kofar Mata Eid prayer field, go by specified pathways to Gidan Shettima, and end within the emir's residence at Kofar Fatalwa.
The Hawan Nasarawa parade will take place in a different format without equine exhibitions, he continued.
However, due to worries about public safety, Waiya declared that other customary festivals, such as Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi, would be suspended.
He said that in order to guarantee complete adherence to the orders, security services have been put on high alert and instructed to increase monitoring before to, during, and following the Sallah celebrations.
The commissioner assured citizens that the government is dedicated to a peaceful and trouble-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration and advised them to maintain composure, obey the law, and desist from disseminating false information.
