Kano State government has today disclosed that miscreants who invaded the State High Court during the nationwide protest had carted away vital documents connected to the corruption trial of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. Recall that Kano state government had dragged Ganduje, his wife, Hafsat, Umar, his Son, Umar Abdullahi, and five others to the court over 8 count charges bothering on misappropriation, and diversion of state funds during his eight-year tenure as governor of the state.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has today approved a bill for an act to rise up to 300% the salaries, allowances and fringe benefits of judicial office holders in Nigeria and for related matters into law. This was disclosed in a statement issued by Senator, Basheer Lado the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters in Abuja.

Nigerians on 10th August 2024, hit the roads in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, for a one-million-man march marking the 10th day of the nationwide protest against hunger, hardship, and bad governance under President Bola Tinubu. The organizers had pledged to conduct a one-million-man protest across all 36 states and the nation’s capital to signify the grand finale of the hunger protest.
The protesters took to the streets in the early hours of Saturday, displaying various placards and chanting, “we are hungry.”

The Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla has disclosed that the Nigerian Navy was set to establish a Naval Base and Dockyard in Ogun state to protect critical investments. Vice Admiral Ogalla said this on Friday, August 9, when he received the Governor of Ogun State Dapo Abiodun at Naval Headquarters, Abuja. He said Ogun being an industrial hub and strategic state required the presence of the Nigerian Navy to secure investments.
Vice Admiral Ogalla said: “Ogun State is strategic in the nation and it is strategic with us in our activities which cannot be effectively done with the collaboration of key stakeholders like the state. “We listen to the proposal of the governor has towards developing state all geared towards promoting economic activities. He proposed molecular LNG and molecular blue seaport and also the development of the ‘Tongaji’ Island, these are investments that will attract a number of US dollars of up to N10bn into Nigerian economy. These investments can’t be without being provided security.

A gas explosion has rocked a Mobil Oil Company filling station beside the Airport Hotel in Ikeja. It was learnt that the explosion occurred at about 10:49 am on Thursday, August 8, when a gas tanker was discharging its content into a surface storage tank when it ignited. Meanwhile, the fire has been brought under control. The incident caused fear among residents and workers in the area, who were forced to run for their lives and scramble to safety. Eyewitnesses and emergency service officials on the scene revealed that no lives were lost, but many people were injured. Witnesses also reported that some of the injured were rushed to hospitals in private vehicles and minibusses (Korope) before ambulances arrived.

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has today cautioned hunger protesters to avoid calling on “undemocratic forces” using the nationwide protest to call for a military coup in the country. Falana’s comment comes on the heel of where some miscreant were seen waving Russian flags in some states like Kano and Kaduna States on Sunday, chanting in Hausa, “We don’t want bad government.”
