As the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) sustains the ongoing demolition exercise to recover lands illegally grabbed by developers, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has directed all relevant security agencies to protect the demolition squad and ensure total recovery. He gave the order on Tuesday when he paid an on-the-spot visit to the site of the illegal development, alongside the Guards Brigade Commander, Director, FCT Department of State Security, Commissioner of Police, the Commandant, NSCDC, and other FCTA officials.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has disclosed it is selling seized petrol from smugglers in the Northern parts of the country at a subsidised price. In a statement signed by the Acting Public Relations Officer, Katsina Command, Assistant Superintendent of Customs, Isah Bello, the service noted that under its operation whirlwind, it has seized up to 12,000 litres of PMS across the Katsina, Kano, and Jigawa axis which were being smuggled to neighbouring countries.

Officers of the Lagos State Police Command used tear gas to disperse protesters on 20th October 2024, as they rallied to mark the fourth anniversary of the #EndSARS protests, a movement that gained international attention in October 2020. Videos from the scene showed demonstrators fleeing as shots were fired into the air, and clouds of tear gas filled the area. The protesters, who had gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate around 8:30 am with banners and placards, called for the full implementation of the recommendations made by various judicial panels of inquiry set up in the aftermath of the 2020 protests.

The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, NIHSA, has advised Nigerians living around river banks along the River Benue Basin to quickly move to safer grounds. Director-General of NIHSA, Umar Mohammed, who gave the warning in a statement yesterday, said water on the River Benue has reached the flooding level due to increased rainfall. He also urged those along the River Niger to move to a safe location, saying the management of Kainji and Jebba Dams were working to control the floodwaters.
