The staff of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has commenced an indefinite nationwide strike today, after the 14-day ultimatum expiration issued to management. This development to down tools was confirmed following a congress of NAFDAC staff convened on 4th October 2024 over unresolved issues. Under the directive of the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies SSASCGOC, the striking workers have been instructed to withdraw all services and vacate offices. They were also ordered to remove personal belongings as the strike began.

Benue State member representing Apa/Agatu federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Ojotu Ojeme has called on the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army to help in ensuring peace in communities at Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State. Rep Ojema disclosed this over the weekend during a chat with journalists in Makurdi, noting that the armed herders have displaced the native of the communities and presently occupying about 20 communities in the area. He urged the Nigerian Military to step up capacity and proactive approach to curtail the situation as Apa/Agatu axis remains the most abandoned and maltreated Local Government Area in Nigeria.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that many Nigerian nationals currently in Lebanon are hesitant to return home, despite the federal government’s evacuation plans due to the escalating Israel-Hezbollah conflict.

The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has recently announced a slight decrease in River Benue’s water levels, lowering the risk of severe flooding. This was revealed by the NIHSA’s Director-General, Mr. Umar Mohammed, in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja. Mohammed reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to monitoring the water levels of the nation’s major rivers and tributaries, as part of Nigeria's overall flood management strategy.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has warned bandits, terrorists and other criminal elements to surrender now or be neutralised. He gave the warning in Abuja yesterday during a lecture organised by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). “Enough is enough. This has to stop. And it will stop. This is a warning to them. They have limited time,” the President added.  He was represented by National Security Adviser (NSA) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.  The lecture with the theme: “Insecurity in the Sahel (2008-2024): Dissecting Nigeria’s challenges – genesis, impacts, and options,” provided a platform to address the enormous security challenges in the region.

The upper chamber of Nigeria’s legislature on Wednesday rejects a bill for an act to license operation and practice of private investigations in the country. The bill sponsored by Senator Osita Ngwu, was rejected by the majority of lawmakers during debate on the floor of the House. Ngwu, the Senate Minority Whip, said the bill seeks amongst others, to provide a framework for the licensing and practice of private investigators in the country, as well as provide for a system of regulation, control and conduct of the practice so as to maintain professional standards.
