The Department of State Service, Kwara State Command, has sent a security notice to the Kwara State Police Command, warning of a probable attack on the Gbabe community in Baruten LGA. The caution came only days after a horrific attack on the Woro hamlet in Kaiama LGA, which killed dozens of people.
A copy of the letter, signed by J.S. Adams, State Director of DSS in Kwara, and dated February 5, 2026, was sent to the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command Headquarters, Ilorin, amid increased instability along the Kwara North axis.
The letter, headlined 'Threat of Attack on Gbabe, Baruten LGA, with reference to S.122/1/1897,' alerted the community to the movement and concentration of armed individuals, believed to be Mamuda militants, in the vicinity of Kiyoru Settlement in Gwanara District.
According to a report, there may be a threat of an armed group attacking Gbabe Community in Gwanara District, Baruten Local Government Area (LGA), Kwara State.
According to the letter, this resulted from the concentration of armed men in the Kiyoru Settlement area, who were believed to be Mamuda elements, despite the residents' animosity toward them.
The history of violent actions by armed groups operating in the vicinity of Kainji Lake National Park was again emphasized, as was the necessity of increased vigilance in the villages along the route.
"Given the history of armed groups in the vicinity of Kainji Lake National Park, it is imperative to implement the appropriate security measures to prevent any undesirable developments," the DSS continued.
In order to avoid a breakdown of law and order, the letter asked the police to act quickly on the intelligence and take the necessary action.
It ended with the words, "Respectfully forwarded for your attention and necessary action, please."
Days after the Woro massacre, in which armed men allegedly slaughtered scores of people and forced survivors to flee, the alarm has raised fears among local leaders and citizens.
According to witnesses, the attackers were operating from wooded areas that stretched from Kaiama and Baruten LGAs to the Benin Republic, a route that security organizations have frequently noted as being vulnerable.
Residents in Baruten LGA voiced concern over the threat described in the DSS letter, while security deployments had been strengthened in some areas of Kaiama as of the time of filing in response to the Woro event.
On Monday night, at Ahmadu Bello House in Ilorin, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq also called a meeting of the emergency security council, which included the heads of security agencies.
According to the governor, the purpose of the meeting was to assess the state of security and improve coordinated efforts to eliminate new threats.
"I called an emergency security council meeting at the Ahmadu Bello House in Ilorin today as part of our multi-layered response to the recent terrorist attack in Kaiama LGA," AbdulRazaq stated.
Following briefings from all of the state's security commanders, the governor talked about how to eliminate all risks to the public and protect people's lives and property.
Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti) and Governor Usman Ododo (Kogi) had previously accompanied AbdulRazaq to visit Woro assault victims undergoing treatment at the General Hospital in Ilorin.
