A thorough investigation into the alleged human trafficking of four minors from Adamawa State on their way to Nasarawa State has been launched by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). Sa'adatu Galadima, the Nasarawa State Commandant of NAPTIP, made this revelation on Thursday in Lafia, the state capital, while parading two suspects in the trafficking of children. She claims that the traffickers, identified as 33-year-old Asabe Bedan and 40-year-old Calpurnia Ogianfen, were apprehended by Department of State Services agents while traveling from Karu Local Government Area in Nasarawa State to Edo State.
She mentioned that initial inquiries had shown that the two had trafficked more than 20 children from Adamawa to Edo and Lagos State.
“The suspects were intercepted at Karu LGA on the 25th of February in an attempt to move the children to Edo State. With the full commencement of investigations, more actionable information would be uncovered to give room for prosecution. “I, therefore, urge parents to be wary of whom they relate with because human traffickers live among close relations, guardians, and the neighbourhood,” she explained.
She emphasized that the command will step up its raid operations to end the terrible threat of human trafficking and said that the agency had achieved great progress in reducing it in the state.
