The Nigerian Army has confirmed reports of an unauthorised incursion by personnel of the Cameroonian Armed Forces into Danare Community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State on June 9, 2026. In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan, the Army said troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Danare responded immediately after receiving reports of the foreign military presence.
According to the statement, Nigerian troops swiftly contacted the appropriate Cameroonian military authorities, leading to the withdrawal of the foreign soldiers from Nigerian territory in line with established border protocols.
“Consequently, the situation was swiftly contained without any further escalation,” the statement indicated.
The Army disclosed that preliminary findings linked the incident to a disagreement over the collection of levies on farmland located between Danare Community in Nigeria and Dadi Community in Cameroon.
To strengthen ongoing diplomatic and military cooperation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division has directed the Commander of 13 Brigade to engage with his Cameroonian counterpart for further discussions on the matter.
“This initiative aims to bolster border coordination, clarify operational procedures along the boundary, and avert future incidents,” it further stated.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity, the Army assured residents of border communities that security measures remain firmly in place.
“Residents of Danare and surrounding areas are assured that the situation is stable and entirely under control. Troops remain alert and continue to oversee border activities,” it concluded.
The Army also urged members of the public to remain calm, continue with their legitimate activities, and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary tension.
