The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice James Omotosho, has adjourned the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to Friday, 24th October, 2025, following a notification of withdrawal by his lead counsel, Kanu Agbai, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), alongside other SANs, including Onyechi Ikpeazu, Joseph Akubo, Paul Erokoro, and Emeka Etiaba.
Agbai further informed the court of Kanu’s stance for self-representation, and Kanu confirmed the dismissal of his legal team before the court, he also expressed readiness to represent himself and declined the offer from the court for a new counsel.
The adjournment, however, came after a plea by Ikpeazu, who reminded the court of the impromptu withdrawal of the legal team and appealed that Kanu be given adequate time to equip himself and prepare his thoughts for defense.
The plea was obliged by the judge, who adjourned the trial to enable the IPOB leader to prepare himself for his defense stand during trial.
Kanu is going into defense against multiple charges, including treasonable felony and terrorism-related offenses connected to his activities as the leader of IPOB and the armed Eastern Security Network (ESN) wing of the group.
