Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have escalated coordinated military operations across Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi states, killing at least six suspected bandits and recovering arms and ammunition equipment in a series of offensives conducted this week. Security forces also recorded notable successes in rescue efforts during separate operations.
In Sokoto State, soldiers of the COAS Intervention Battalion VII engaged suspected terrorists in two encounters at Magonho Forest on March 25. The operation resulted in the killing of three bandits, with troops recovering three AK-47 rifles and motorcycles from the scene.
In neighbouring Zamfara State, troops laid an ambush along the Gada Maya–Makakari Village road, where two suspected terrorists were neutralised. Items recovered during the operation included weapons, ammunition, a communication radio, mobile phones, and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the fleeing insurgents.
Later, security forces repelled a retaliatory attack on Kaida Village, killing another suspected terrorist and seizing an AK-47 rifle. In a follow-up clearance mission in Dutsi Village, Zurmi Local Government Area, troops forced suspected terrorists to abandon additional weapons, including an AK-47 rifle and 26 rounds of ammunition.
In Kebbi State, troops acting on intelligence advanced to the Giron Masa community in Shanga Local Government Area following reports of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group’s presence. Although they encountered resistance in the form of an ambush by fleeing suspects, reinforcements were deployed, allowing the operation to continue.
Military authorities said intelligence-led operations are ongoing to track down fleeing suspects, reaffirming that the Nigerian Army remains committed to dominating the operational environment, degrading terrorist capabilities, and safeguarding civilians across the North-West.
The Army added that troop morale remains high, citing their courage, professionalism, and adherence to the Chief of Army Staff’s strategic directives aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region.
