The Nigerian army repelled an onslaught on towns in Plateau State's Mangu Local Government Area, forcing women and children to flee for their lives. Zagazola Makama, a security analyst, posted about the incident on X on Monday. The post states that at around 3:25 p.m. on Sunday, troops from Sector 8, Sub-Sector 81, stationed in Gyambwas, responded to reports of intermittent gunfire near the Gimti Galadima, Kobodon, and Kaduno districts. When the military arrived, armed individuals were trying to set fire to multiple Fulani settlements, according to security sources Makama said.
According to the sources, the troops used superior firepower to stop the attack and prevent further destruction of the communities. No soldier was killed or injured during the operation. The sources added that troops have continued to carry out aggressive patrols in the area to prevent another attack and reassure residents of their safety.
