In an effort to lower transportation expenses for Nigerians during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the Federal Government has granted a 50% fee slash on all passenger rail services run by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC). In a statement released on Tuesday, the Federal Ministry of Transportation's Permanent Secretary, Engineer Funsho Adebiyi, made the announcement. The announcement claims that the reduced fares went into effect on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, and would last until Monday, June 1, 2026.
The government clarified that the Nigerian Railway Corporation's earlier announcements about train itineraries and operational timetables would not alter. The statement said, "The Federal Ministry of Transportation appreciates the continued support of Nigerians and wishes all passengers and the Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration."
The temporary fee reduction, according to the government, is one of several initiatives meant to ease travel costs and assist individuals throughout the holiday season.
