The Lagos State Government stated that it will commence an eight-month road reconstruction on the Lekki-Ajah corridor, starting from 15th November 2025, to curb the traffic congestion and improve road quality along the axis. This was made public in a statement by the Commissioner for Transport, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on 12th November 2025, disclosing that the project is expected to run in two phases until 15th July 2026.
According to Osiyemi, Phase One will cover the stretch from Lekki’s First Toll Gate to the Second Toll Gate, divided into seven sections of the expressway. One lane will remain open to traffic while the other undergoes reconstruction, after which work will switch to the opposite lane.
He assured residents that vehicles travelling between Lekki and Ajah would retain through access for the duration of the first phase. Phase Two will extend from the Second Toll Gate to the Ajah under-bridge and will cover four sections. During this stage, motorists heading from Ajah towards Lekki will be diverted to a single lane while the other is repaired, before works are reversed on completion.
The commissioner added that traffic management officials would be deployed to ensure movement is maintained throughout both phases.
The government appealed for patience and cooperation from residents during the period of partial closures, noting that the inconvenience would be temporary.
“Motorists are advised to remain patient and obey traffic personnel on site. These repairs form part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to enhance road quality and ease movement across the state,” Osiyemi said.
He also explained that the rehabilitation aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility and infrastructure renewal under the THEMES+ development agenda.
