A privately owned aircraft was grounded, and its Operator's Permit for Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF) was terminated by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) after it landed on a road close to Asaba and then left the region without permission. The incident happened near Asaba Airport in the Ogwashi-Uku neighborhood on Wednesday morning. The aviation industry regulator's director of public affairs and consumer protection, Michael Achimugu, said in a statement that preliminary data indicated the aircraft had trouble landing at Asaba Airport and then made a missed approach.
Four crew members were on board the aircraft at the time of the incident, according to the NCAA. The aircraft later took off from the site and returned to Lagos without obtaining the necessary authorization from aviation authorities, which alarmed the regulator.
The authorities pointed out that traffic control officers were notified only after the aircraft had taken off, which it regarded as a violation of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations. The NCAA has ordered the aircraft to be grounded upon arrival in Lagos and has placed the flight crew under regulatory scrutiny while investigations continue.
It revealed that the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has been informed of the development and that it is collaborating with pertinent parties, such as the aircraft operator and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), to determine the circumstances surrounding the landing and the subsequent departure.
In the case that infractions of aviation regulations are found, further enforcement actions may be taken. The investigation will look at the aircraft's operational records, airworthiness status, maintenance history, and other flight-related documents.
