Nigeria in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has reacted to the video of purported stranded Nigerian immigrants in Dubai alleged to have thrown into the desert. There a viral video going around the social media circulated by a Nigerian in Dubai claiming they have been chased by the United Arab Emirate (UAE) authorities into the desert. Recall that the UAE authorities in July had announced that Nigerians whom their visas have expired were given grace of up to August 17 to vacate the country.
However, reacting to the claim, the Nigerian DG for Diaspora commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa via her tweeter said, against all odds, some Nigerians refused to heed to the notice.
According to her, the UAE authorities have provided three flights to evacuate illegal Nigerians with the said expired visa out of the country to Nigeria free of charge, but some refused to take the opportunity.
In her statement, “UAE has given illegal migrants March 1 to leave extended till Aug 17 And UAE even gave 3 free flights. “They’ve been returning (179 came in yesterday free of charge) but some still bent on hiding and breaking the laws. You shouldn’t stay illegally anywhere. “That video was five days ago. Once they realize they can get free flights, they go calling themselves to go sleep in front of the mission.
“The illegal ones are affecting the legal ones negatively with such behavior. “Please let’s obey laws of other countries,” Dabiri-Erewa stated.
