Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has disclosed plans to regain ownership of his music masters from international record label Sony before retiring from the music industry. Speaking during an episode of The Long Form podcast, the award-winning singer stressed the importance of ownership in the music business, describing it as a crucial aspect of an artist’s long-term success.
Davido revealed that he intends to reacquire his master's and use them as a source of financial security for his children in the future.
“I have a good music contract. But the most important thing is ownership. I plan to get my master's back from Sony soon. With that, I can give each of my kids songs they will keep earning royalties from even after I retire,” he said.
The singer also underscored the need for artists to pay close attention to the commercial side of their careers, noting that the business aspect of music should not be overlooked.
