The Joint Health Sector Unions and the Assembly of Health Care Professional Association have directed their members to commence an indefinite industrial action starting from midnight today. The National Vice Chairman of JOHESU, Dr. Obinna Ogbonna declared the strike action during a press briefing in Abuja today. JOHESU is the umbrella body of health workers’ unions and associations, including the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals, Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, and Senior Staff Association of Universities Teaching Hospitals Research Institutes and Associated Institutions.


The leadership of the Union in a letter sighted, which was signed Monday, 9th May 2023 when it issued an ultimatum to the federal Government after embarking on a warning strike last week that lasted for one week. 

JOHESU accused the Federal Government of failing to honor its bargain by failing to harmonize its consolidated Health Salary Structure for health workers in the country. 

The 15-day ultimate issued to Federal Government expired yesterday 24th May, 2023. 

JOHESU leadership in its letter said, “It becomes imperative to inform you that since the Federal Government is yet to meet these demands, our members have been directed by the JOHESU National Executive Council to proceed on an indefinite strike action upon expiration of the ultimatum by midnight of May 25, 2023.”
