The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed an additional 170 confirmed new cases bringing the toll of infection in Nigeria to 2,558.
The agency also revealed that two new patients have been confirmed dead from the virus bringing the total death to now 87 persons.
The information was obtained from the official twitter handle of the agency on Sunday few hours to opening of the partial lockdown that was imposed on the sates of FCT, Lagos and Ogun states
.
The NCDC disclosed the confirmed new cases were recorded in 12 states as follows; Bauchi-18, FCT-12, Kaduna-15, Kano-29, Kastina-8, Lagos-39, Sokoto-12, Ogun024.
Similarly, Borno-7, Nassarawa-3, Adamawa-2 and Oyo-1 it said.
According to the report, as at 11:59 pm on Sunday, 3rd May 2020, Nigeria has 2017 confirmed cases and 400 persons discharged.
The agency explained that due to community transmission in some part of the country, it has started a new vase definition to help test and treat the persons with COVID-19.
The statement partly reads;
“The new definition for community transmission is suspected cases of those with cough or fever or history of fever in the last two weeks with one or more of the symptoms listed below;
. Shivering /shaking (chills)
. Body pain
. Headache
. Sore throat
. Recent loss of taste or smell
. Difficulty in breathing/shortness of breath
. Diarrhoea/abdominal pain
. Runny nose/catarrh
. Fatigue (tiredness).”
Accordingly, a probable cause of COVID-19 is any person who presented with any of the above symptoms in the last two weeks and died without a confirmatory COVID-19 test. Related
