The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has revealed that Nigerians shouldn’t see coronavirus and malaria as the same thing, though both present similar symptoms but both diseases mode of transmission differ.
The health agency made this known through its official tweeter handle today, saying Nigerians should take note that the two are not the same, warning people against taking COVID-19 and malaria as the same infection.
NCDC further unveils additional 12 symptoms that could suggest the presence of coronavirus in one’s body.
According to the health agency, the identified symptoms would serve as a guide to Nigerians to differentiate the two, saying, “Take responsibility” by quickly calling the hotlines if any of such symptoms present itself.
The health agency urged Nigerians to alert its officials “If you have cough or fever with one of any of these symptoms:
Loss of Taste; Loss of Smell, Difficulty Breathing, Diarrhea, Catarrh, Fatigue, Shivering, Body Pain, Headache, and Sore Throat.
It also added that difficulty in breathing or shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure, and loss of speech or movement” were some of the serious symptoms of COVID-19.
They advised Nigerians to immediately seek medical attention if they experience any health challenge.
“On average it takes 5–6 days from when someone is infected with the virus for symptoms to show, however it can take up to 14 days,” it said.
Meanwhile, Nigeria has announced 653 new COVID-19 cases yesterday in the country as total infections from the virus rise to 36, 107.
The health agency said that as of yesterday July 18, 2020, 653 additional cases were confirmed with six deaths.
NCDC said the cases were reported from about 27 states of the federation and the FCT.
Meanwhile, the toll of the COVID-19 in Nigeria now stands at 36,107, with 14938 cases have been treated and discharged while 778 persons died of its complication and each state in Nigeria has reported at least a case.
