The Federal Government has announced plans to construct and maintain oxygen plants across the nation, in order to increase oxygen reserve capacity. This was disclosed in Abuja after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday by the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Muhammed.

Muhammed said, "The minister of health presented a memo, which was approved, for the emergency supply, installation, and maintenance of oxygen production plants and construction of plant houses in each of the 36 states of the federation and Abuja.

"The contract was approved in the sum of N5,615,127,479 inclusive of 7.5 percent VAT, in favor of 4 different companies, with a completion period of 20 weeks."

Muhammed said the approval for the construction of oxygen plants was a result of cushioning the effects of another possible wave of COVID-19 in the country.
