The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) stated that no person resident in Nigeria has died as a result of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. This was disclosed to news reporters on Friday in Abuja by the Director-General of NCDC, Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa. He advised Nigerians to practice the health protocols issued by the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 such as social distancing, wearing face masks, and reducing group sizes.
He said, “We are counting on you to #CelebrateResponsibly and #TakeResponsibility to keep yourself and your loved ones safe from COVID-19.”
He also said that the biggest risk factor for the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 was indoor mixing and large gatherings that could create “multiple spreading events”.
According to reports, the African Union Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said that as of Thursday, 22 African countries have reported cases of Omicron variant.
