Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the national head of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), and Engineer Sagir Koki, who represents the Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, have both resigned from the NNPP. This occurred just days after Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, another member of the green chamber who represented the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, left the party and rejoined the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Koki resigned from the NNPP due to the internal turmoil that was rocking the party's central leadership.
In a resignation letter to the Ward Chairperson of Zaitawa Ward, Kano Municipal, the legislator stated that the situation has continued to prevent him from carrying out his responsibilities and giving the local population the representation they want in the green chamber.
"By virtue of the right granted to me by Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), Article 7.1 of the NNPP Constitution, and all other pertinent extant laws, I, Hon. Engr. Sagir Ibrahim Koki, do hereby resign my membership of the NNPP effective from Tuesday, the 11th day of November, 2025," he stated.
"I gratefully thank the party for giving me the chance to serve under its platform. The legislator, Koki, stated, "I continue to be incredibly appreciative of the leadership and party members at all levels, and the support, trust, and experience I have gained during my reign as a member have been invaluable."
Meanwhile, the NNPP in Kano State has suffered yet another significant setback with Koki's departure.
Remember that Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila (Kano South), a senator, and other prominent members of the House of Representatives were already lost to the ruling All Progressives Congress at the center by the Kwankwaso-led wing of the NNPP.
