Former Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on political matters, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has frowned at the continued silence of President Tinubu on rumors suggesting plan to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general election. There were speculations of an alleged plot to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general election which has heated the political atmosphere.
Recall that during a televised interview in June, at the peak of the speculation, the presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga dismissed the claim as a ‘non-issue,’ stressing that President Tinubu would choose his running mate only after accepting the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination.
Reacting, however, on “Politics Today”, a programme on Channels Television yesterday, Baba-Ahmed, who resigned from his position in the Tinubu administration about three months ago, was of the opinion that considering the sensitivity of the matter, the President should have personally debunked the rumour if it was truly a ‘non-issue.’
Baba-Ahmed said “I would be very curious to find out what it is that makes all these stories about dropping him (Shettima). I think, somewhere along the line, to be honest, the President should have done something a long time ago”, he concluded.
