Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is expected to step down from his position on Friday amid growing internal pressure aimed at repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. The former Kano State governor has faced increasing calls for his resignation, particularly from influential party members in the North Central region, who have consistently demanded that the chairmanship be returned to their zone.
Ganduje is set to formally submit his resignation and transfer leadership responsibilities to one of the party’s national vice chairmen, who will serve in an acting capacity until a national convention takes place in December.
Ganduje assumed the APC chairmanship in August 2023, following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu; the appointment sparked discontent among stakeholders from the North Central region of Nigeria.
