Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has disclosed that several prominent former leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and key allies of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have resolved to back President Bola Tinubu. The political heavyweights include former PDP national chairman Uche Secondus; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara; former Rivers State governor, Celestine Omehia; and former Minister of Transport, Abiye Sekibo. Governor Fubara made the disclosure on Thursday during the New Year banquet organised by the Rivers State Government at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Port Harcourt.
Acknowledging their presence at the event, the governor said their decision had effectively countered allegations and blackmail, suggesting that he was aligning with individuals opposed to the President’s interests.
Fubara reaffirmed that he remained “unshaken” despite political challenges, attributing his confidence and resilience to his faith in God, which he said underpinned his vision for governance in Rivers State.
He noted that he was not “barking,” stressing that he understood the political terrain and had put structures in place to navigate it successfully and achieve his administration’s objectives. Quoting Julius Caesar, the governor added that it was those who lacked understanding that resorted to “barking” when they could not interpret unfolding events.
The governor declared that 2026 would mark what he described as “complete liberation” for Rivers State, assuring that all the goals of his administration would be realised. He expressed confidence that those who stood by him would ultimately be fulfilled and proud of their choices.
Fubara said his administration had faced numerous challenges but emerged stronger, noting that battles he could not fight had reinforced his resolve. He stressed that he had lost nothing and that it was only a matter of time to recover all.
He further assured that his administration would never compel anyone to do what was wrong, insisting that he harboured no fear and was confident that, when the time came, every necessary bridge would be crossed.
