The Super Eagles team, who emerged first runner-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), have officially received their national honors certificates as well as title documents for houses and land allocations as pledged by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Prior to the Super Eagles' first game of the next AFCON qualification campaign, the presentation was held on December 22, 2025, at the team's hotel in Fez, Morocco. After Nigeria finished second in the 2023 AFCON competition, which was held in Côte d'Ivoire in January and February of 2024, President Tinubu promised the prizes.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman, Shehu Dikko, presided over the short ceremony, which was attended by a number of dignitaries, including Senator Abdul Ningi, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports; Hon. Kabiru Amadu, the Chairman of the House Committee on Sports; Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale; Ibrahim Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF); Mrs. Nathan-Mash, Senior Special Assistant to the President; Nigerian High Commission officials; and Mallam Saleh Amadu.
Dikko explained during the occasion that the majority of players received the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) award. But after receiving the MON, Ahmed Musa and Victor Osimhen were awarded the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). In honor of winning Player of the Tournament at AFCON 2023, team captain William Troost-Ekong received the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).
Dikko affirmed that all of President Tinubu's authorised national awards, housing allocations in Abuja or Lagos, and land grants in Abuja had been completed, with allocation letters given in accordance with the President's pledge to recognise excellence and national service.
Additionally, he revealed that comparable awards authorised for the Super Falcons and Nigeria's D'Tigers men's basketball team have been handled. While the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation are finalising the direct payment of the cash awards, equivalent to $100,000 per player, into the beneficiaries' bank accounts, title documents for houses and national honours certificates are available for pickup.
As the Super Eagles return their attention to their on-field duties in the ongoing AFCON qualification campaign, the development demonstrates a fresh focus on structured athlete care and accountability.
