Following the collision that claimed the lives of two of his pals, boxer Anthony Joshua was discharged from a Nigerian hospital, according to authorities. On Monday, Sina Ghami and Latif "Latz" Ayodele perished when their car, together with Joshua, collided with a stationary truck on a major route close to Lagos. Joshua, a former heavyweight champion, was discharged on Wednesday despite suffering injuries, according to Lagos State Commissioner for Information Gbenga Omotoso. In a joint statement with Ogun State, which he posted on X, Mr Omotoso said Joshua was "deemed clinically fit to recuperate from home."
The statement said, "Anthony and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two departed friends as they were being prepared for repatriation scheduled for later this evening."
Ghami served as Joshua's strength and conditioning coach in addition to being a long-time buddy, and Ayodele was a trainer.
Joshua went on vacation in Nigeria after defeating Jake Paul in Miami on December 19. Joshua was born in Watford to Nigerian parents.
Eddie Hearn, a boxing promoter who has supported 36-year-old Joshua since he became a professional and won gold at the London 2012 Olympics, wrote on Instagram: "Latz and Sina, rest in peace." Among many other wonderful traits, we will miss your enthusiasm and loyalty.
"Praying for strength and guidance for all their family, friends and of course AJ during this very difficult time."
Condolences have also been sent by former world champion Wladimir Klitschko, British heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, two-time undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, and retired cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew.
