Despite recent defections and internal disagreements, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claims to be resilient, driven by its grassroots strength. Debo Ologunagba, the party's National Publicity Secretary, said this on Tuesday.
He asserted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was not suffocating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Still, rather than the Nigerian people, adding that the widespread hardship and insecurity across the nation would ultimately influence the outcome of the 2027 elections.
“When a governor defects, it’s troubling, but the PDP’s real strength doesn’t lie in governors—it lies in the people. If the PDP is truly dead, why then is everyone so preoccupied with it?” he queried.
Ologunagba further claimed that Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah’s defection was not rooted in ideology but motivated by personal interests, inducement, intimidation, and coercion—tactics he accused the APC-led government of using to destabilize the opposition.
“Defections today are no longer driven by principles, policies, or programs. People are being pressured, threatened, or enticed to cross over,” he added.
