In a significant move aimed at curbing government expenditures, President Bola Tinubu has imposed new restrictions on ministers, ministers of state, and heads of federal agencies, limiting their official convoys to a maximum of three vehicles. This directive, announced in a statement signed by the President, signifies a broader effort to streamline government operations and reduce costs.
Under the new guidelines, no additional vehicles will be allocated for official movements, reinforcing the administration's commitment to fiscal responsibility. This measure comes on the heels of earlier actions taken by President Tinubu, including a drastic reduction of his own entourage on foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials, and a cut from 50 to 25 for local journeys.
Similarly, Vice President Kashim Shettima’s entourage was trimmed to five officials for foreign trips and 15 for domestic travel.
In addition to vehicle restrictions, the President has also limited the security personnel assigned to ministers and agency heads.
Each official may now have a maximum of five security personnel, comprising four police officers and one officer from the Department of State Services (DSS). No additional security personnel will be permitted.
To further assess and optimize security resources, President Tinubu has directed National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu to collaborate with military, paramilitary, and other security agencies.
“All affected officials are expected to comply with these new measures immediately, underscoring the urgency and seriousness of these changes,” stated presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.
