Demola Olarenwaju, Senior Political Assistant to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has described former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as an exceptional figure in Nigerian politics, citing his strategic mindset and ability to execute plans effectively. Olarenwaju, in a post shared on X, said El-Rufai’s approach to politics sets him apart from many others, adding that his ability to combine long-term planning with practical action makes him a unique political actor.
He also expressed confidence that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) would eventually have no further justification to keep the former governor in custody.
El-Rufai, who is also a prominent member of the ADC, has remained in ICPC detention since February 19, 2026, following allegations linked to fraud and abuse of office. On April 13, the anti-graft agency arraigned him before a Kaduna State High Court on an amended nine-count charge.
The former governor is currently facing trial while reportedly dealing with health concerns, with his personal physician also having been arrested in connection with the matter.
Reacting to the situation, Olarenwaju wrote: 'What makes El-Rufai unique in Nigeria’s politics is his clear-headedness and depth of strategic thought with tactical implementational balance.'
“He is not only a planner, but if nobody will do the dirties, my man will take off his white and enter the mud himself. Hate to love him.
“They will eventually run out of excuses to keep holding the man, and then the nakedness of their hypocrisy will become too glaring to be concealed from and ignored by the outside world. Till then, it’s solidarity and courage.”
Olarenwaju’s comments add to ongoing political reactions surrounding El-Rufai’s detention and legal battle, with supporters and critics continuing to debate the implications of the case.
