Following Nigeria’s performance in the last African Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Super Eagles have moved up 12 spots in the July 2019 FIFA ranking, placing it on position 33rd in the world after winning bronze at the just-concluded Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
In the official ranking released by the world football governing body on Thursday, 25th July, 2019 Nigeria garnered 1, 481 points as against 1, 433 it had in June, 2019 to emerged 45th position. The movement has now placed Nigeria as the third in Africa behind Senegal and Tunisia, who are 20th and 29th in the world, respectively.
Also, the ranking on the global scene showed South American champions, Brazil (2nd, upward ranking by 1 place), leapfrogged of France (3rd, downward by 1 place). In second place and trail leaders, Belgium moved by a narrow margin of 20 points.
