Anambra billionaire and Managing Director of JEZCO Oil, Chief Joseph Ezeokafor, has regained his freedom after spending 10 days in captivity.

This was made known in a statement by the Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), adding that a Reverend Sister was also released.

The statement reads, “The Anambra State Police Command confirms that, today, 15th August 2026, Chief J. J. Ezeokafor and a Rev. Sister, who were earlier abducted by armed criminals at Ifite-Awka, have been released and have safely returned.

“The command is currently taking necessary steps to establish the circumstances surrounding their release and obtain relevant information that will assist ongoing investigations and identification of the perpetrators.

“The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, while commending the safe return of the victims, further directs intensified intelligence-led operations and manhunt for those responsible for the abduction.”

The police noted that the intelligence-led operation involved personnel of the NPF, the Department of State Services (DSS), the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Agunechemba security operatives and other relevant agencies and also encouraged residents to stay vigilant and provide relevant information to assist in their investigation.
