David Luiz has threatened to quit Chelsea after he held a meeting with the Blues’ manager Antonio Conte demanding his place back in the starting XI, according to Express Sport. Luiz was axed by Conte after a disagreement over tactics issue in the Champions League against AS Roma in Italy back in October which led to the defender being dropped in the game against Manchester United in the Premier League.
The situation became worse when the Brazilian injured his knee in training and has been out of the Chelsea side for three weeks. But it has been suggested that the relationship between the Chelsea manager and Luiz has gone cold.
The former PSG defender is not short of options with top-level clubs vying for his signature across Europe, the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayer Munich are all craving to sign the Brazilian defender.
Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte has indicated his willingness to bring Luiz back in his team, but the Brazilian International insists he wants regular first team football.
A source close to Luiz said: “David like any player wants to play. So now he is waiting to see what happens.” Andreas Christensen has since taken Luiz’s place at the back for Chelsea, with Conte impressed with the Dane’s progress.
The stunning performances by the youthful Danish International at the heart of Chelsea’s rearguard has fueled speculation that Luiz’s days at Stamford bridge could end soonest.
Asked last week if Luiz was happy at Stamford Bridge, Conte said: “I think now is not the right moment to speak about this.There are a lot of games before the transfer window and now is not the right time this is not important.”
The next month, when he is fit to play, will now be pivotal to Luiz’s future at Stamford Bridge. Should David Luiz leave, Conte would want a replacement as soon as possible.
The Brazilian center-back is having his second spell at Chelsea, after rejoining in a £34million deal from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2016.
