Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba has disclosed plans to retire from football in November 2018. The 39-year-old Ivorian international is currently plying his trade with Phoenix Rising in the United States Soccer League and has decided to concentrate on "other projects" when the following season ends in November 2018.
The King as he fondly called by his former Chelsea teammates has been a part of four of Chelsea's Premier League title wins and was crucial to the historic 2012 Champions League triumph against Bayern Munich in Munich. He was twice named in the PFA Team of the Year, twice won the Golden Boot, and in 2007 was named in the FIFPro World XI, Uefa Team of the Year and came fourth in the Ballon d'Or voting.
Speaking with RMC Sports on his planned retirement, the player said "Ah, do you want a scoop? I think next year will be my last season,"
"At some point you have to stop. I need to have time for my other projects. It's good to play, but at 39, it holds me back a bit."
According to 90 Minutes Sports, Drogba began his career at amateur side Levallois Sporting Club who have since renamed their stadium Didier Drogba in his honour.
