Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr is set to incur the wrath of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) following his rejection of proposal to move the 2018 world cup qualifying match aginst Cameroon from the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium to Port Harcourt.
The Super Eagles gaffer maintained that his decision was informed by the opinion of the players. According to him “I am in constant touch with the team’s captain, Mikel Obi and other senior players and they all agree that the team remains in Uyo to finish all qualifiers. Changing the venue will put the boys under pressure. The players are at home with Uyo fans”
However, the NFF claims that issues relating to logistics and the attitude of fans in Uyo stadium were impacting negatively on the game, hence the need to relocate the venue to Port Harcourt.
Meanwhile, unverified reports suggest that the NFF may have resolved to move the venue following allegations that the Uyo stadium is cursed and may not give the team the required “goodluck” to defeat opponents.
The report further claimed that curse was placed on the stadium by aggrieved land owners who were not adequately compensated by the Akwa Ibom state government during the construction of the magnificent stadium.
