Barcelona striker, Luiz Suarez has revealed that he broke down in tears when the Catalan giant insisted on going ahead with his deal after he was roundly condemned for biting Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup. Suarez said despite being slammed with four months suspension, Barcelona went ahead to sign him. In an interview for the Players Tribune, the Uruguay international told Gerard Pique
"I did cross my mind that it could end my dream of joining Barcelona, that I could lose everything. In the days before I was kicked out of the World Cup, I spoke to Zubizarreta and the president. They told me that they still wanted me and I don't have any problem in saying that I cried because they still wanted me.
"After what happened it was difficult to have confidence in me. Barcelona were fantastic with me over this and I will always be grateful."
Speaking on his widely criticized handball against Ghana he added
"It was between us and Ghana and in the quarters we beat them on penalties," explained Suarez. We got to the semi-finals in good form and then Diego Forlan got injured.
"My expulsion against Ghana meant I was sad but I was also happy that we won. I took a risk and when he then missed the penalty I was happy. I was blamed for a lack of fair-play but if he misses it is not my fault."
