Nigeria legend Nwankwo Kanu, Confederation of African Football and Ghana legend Anthony Baffoe have joined the football world in paying tribute to former Super Eagles head coach, Stephen Keshi, who passed away two years ago.
Keshi, who guided Nigeria to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title in South Africa, also led the Super Eagles to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. He also enjoyed an illustrious playing career, captaining the Super Eagles to the AFCON title in 1994 and to their first ever World Cup appearance the same year.
The Big Boss as he is widely known, represented Nigeria at four AFCON competitions (1984, 1988, 1992 and 1994).
Keshi also led unfancied Togo to qualify for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, the first in the history of the West African nation.
“Today we remember Nigeria and Africa football legend, Late Coach Stephen Okechukwu Keshi who passed on, on this day in 2016. Thank you for the memories ‘The Big Boss.’ We can never forget you. #WeRememberKeshi,” Kanu, who played for European giants, Ajax Amsterdam, Inter Milan and Arsenal during his active days wrote on Twitter on Thursday.
CAF also marked the day with a tweet.
“Today marks 2 years on Nigerian legend, Stephan Keshi’s passing. Gone but never forgotten #RIP,” the African governing body tweeted.
Similarly, former Ghanaian international Baffoe also took to Twitter to pay respect to Keshi referred to as the ‘Big Boss’ during his active days.
“Exactly 2 years today since you left us “The Big Boss”one of my idols in world football .You remain in our hearts .Rest well Stephen Keshi,” Baffoe tweeted.
