Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane has moved to settle the rift between captain, Sergio Ramos and club legend, Cristiano Ronaldo as the club prepare to lock horns with Atletico Madrid this weekend. The rift between the duo started after the Portuguese blamed the crisis confronting the club on the exit of Alvaro Morata, Pepe and James Rodriguez. He claimed that their move away from Madrid left the squad with young and inexperienced players.
Responding, Ramos described Ronaldo's claim as opportunistic stressing that the player is individualistic. He stated that his attitude has made players in the squad to dislike him. While debunking the argument that the current Madrid team is made up of inexperienced players, Ramos said the squad as presently constituted has won several trophies including two super cups.
Worried that the degenerating relationship between the two could further worsen the poor performance of the team as action resumes on Saturday in the Spanish La Liga, Zidane has waded into the matter. He dispelled worries that the development could affect the club.
"It isn't something which is affecting us, we know that there is a lot of noise around this club, a lot can happen and a lot can be said. We are calm because we're only focused on what matters and that is playing football.
"They are very smart guys and they can say whatever they want. They have been together for many years and have won a lot together. One might say one thing and the other can say something else but that is for you, we are calm about it. There's no problem between them. All I can say is that I have two players, who are a big part of the history of the club, both know what it means and who respect each other a lot."
